Govt successful in blocking illegal foreign funding of Rs 11,274 crores coming via NGOs to India

The government of India has successfully blocked illegal funds of Rs 11,274 crores coming via NGOs to India in the since 6 years by cancelling the registration of NGO’s that violated the laws under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act

On Wednesday informing to the Rajya Sabha, Sri Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home informed said foreign funding to Indian NGOs has come down drastically from Rs 17,773 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 6,499 crore in 2016-17.

The minister has also informed that the registrations of 18,868 NGOs were cancelled by the home ministry for violating laws under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, between 2011 and 17.

In the year 2017, since 4842 NGOs did not submit annual returns in compliance with FCRA, 2010 and Rules made there under, their registrations were cancelled.

As per available information, in the year 2015, registration of more than 8500 NGOs were cancelled for not adhering to the provisions of FCRA 2010 and Rules made thereunder.
