Over 2,000 Malayalis residing in many parts of the city offered the rites for their departed near and dear at Kapra Lake in Secunderabad on Sunday. The ritual was performed as part of KarkidaVavu Bali (PithruTharpanam),a tradition of Kerala.
Keralites strictly offer the ‘bali’ on the banks of a water body. Organisers arranged for bathing ghats, mobile toilets, medical aid and other facilities at the site. In addition, the Municipal Corporation of India extended its support by offering to clean the lakeside and its premises before and after the ritual.
Karikida, falls in the last month of Malayalam calendar also known as ‘Vavu Bali’. This is the sacrificial ritual performed in the memory of ancestors.
The event was organised by a united forum of Hindu Organisations, Rama Dharma Pracharana Sabha.
