Mumbai, October 13: Mumbai’s special NIA court has ordered attachment of four properties belonging to absconding Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. During a hearing, the court accepted the National Investigation Agency’s plea that Naik was trying to sell these properties since his funding from various sources has been stopped.

Advocate Anand Sukhdev, who appeared for the NIA, told the court that the accused was trying to obtain citizenship in several foreign nations and was trying to raise money for the same by selling these Mazgaon properties.

Charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, two years ago, Naik has declared a proclaimed offender in June last year.

Naik is accusing of having incited many persons to take up terror activities and promoting enmity between different religious groups in India through his public speeches and lectures.

Naik is facing probe both in India and Bangladesh after two suspects in the terror attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka in July 2016, claimed that they were inspired by Naik’s radical preaching. The two were staunch followers of Naik on Facebook and on the Peace Television Channel. The terror attack had left 22 people dead.
