Commitment of two teachers has resulted in the successful revival of a government upper primary school in Narayanapur of Gangadhara mandal in Karimnagar district that was closed in 2011 due to poor strength.

Now, the school has facilities on par with private schools and students have the option of studying up to Class V with English as the medium of instruction.

The government primary school was reopened in June, 2015 and now has 78 students, making it a model for other schools.

After it was closed, the DEO posted two teachers — Gone Srinivas and Lavan Kumar — on deputation to the school on the request of the villagers.

The villagers wanted the government school revived after seeing that some of the families were facing hardships in sending their children to private schools.

The two teachers took the task of reviving the school as a challenge and promised the parents that they would teach the students in English medium.

The two teachers also spent nearly Rs 80,000 of their own money to give a facelift to the school in order to attract the students. The students were also given school dress and were taught with the help of charts.

A majority of the parents had been sending their children to private schools so that they could study in English medium.

With the introduction of English medium education, students who had taken admission in private schools returned to the school in their village. MPTC Babu Mallesham said they extended all possible help to the teachers for the revival of the school after seeing the hard work put in by the teachers. Mr Srinivas said they had to convince the parents and agree to any and all  conditions put forth. “Finally, the villagers stood shoulder-to-shoulder with us in developing the school on fronts,” he said.

He said that 20 of the 78 students are from the surrounding villages Cherlapalli and Laxmidevipalli who come to the school in Narayanapur by engaging autos though there are private schools in their own villages.
