Despite the intervention of Kerala High Court and its clear cut directive not to put devotees in trouble, the police continue to harass devotees in Sabarimala. The court had observed that CrPC 144 was not at all necessary in Sabarimala. Yet on the police has registered cases against 100 identifiable devotees in Sabarimala for chanting sarana mantra. Cases were slapped against some children who led the bhajan. Their crime is they congregated and prayed together.

BJP president PS Sreedharan Pillai said the CPI(M) regime does not honour the court verdict. There is no need of 144 in Sabarimala.

Responding to a private petition, Kerala High Court told the state government that Travancor Devaswom Board (TDB) fund should not be spent for the expenses of the police force deployed in Sabarimala. The government gave an affidavit that it does not spend Devaswom fund for this purpose.

The court said the Devaswom fund belongs to the deity. The government cannot spend that money without the court’s permission. The court issued notices to both the government and TDB in this regard.
